G. Michael Blahnik

Originator's Bio

Welcome to a web site that just might change the way we do theater. It's up to us.
I was born in Cleveland, OH to hard-working, working-class parents and at age twelve I knew that I wanted to work in three different areas later in life: creative writing, ethics, and psychotherapy. Ever since I developed the ability to remember, I have been interested in what motivates human behavior. This passion to understand others, and myself, has, no doubt, directed and guided my occupational pursuits.

Currently, I'm a Lecturer in Philosophy at Northern Kentucky University and an adjunct instructor in Philosophy at Xavier University. I've taught a wide variety of courses, focusing on theoretical and applied ethics (especially business ethics).

Educationally, I've earned a B.A. in Linguistics and Religion (California State University, Fullerton), an M.A. in English (Xavier University), an M.A. in Counseling (Xavier University), an M.A. in Philosophy (University of Cincinnati), and a Ph.D. in Humanities (Union Institute & University).

To date, I've published eleven full-length plays, two novels, five works in philosophy, and one work in psychology where I apply experiential ideas to psychotherapeutic theory and practice.

After working in social work and counseling for more than a decade, I have developed a strong interest in human social hierarchies and the deleterious effects that these forms of human organization have upon mental and physical health. In response to the harmful effects of hierarchy and to my own interest in drama, I am developing a democratic form of business referred to as Associated Independent Dramatic Artists. In doing so I hope to create a viable form of human organization where equality replaces power differences and where human mental and physical health will be improved.
